What To Do Now That Tryouts Are Over

By Ron Strauss

HAVE FUN OF COURSE! Get to know your new teammates and coach. No matter what team you landed on, you need to discover where you can contribute best to your team. Challenge yourself to become good at what your team needs from you. If you find yourself on a team without a clear leader, this may be your year to assume a leadership role. If your new team needs you to skate defense and you were a solid scoring center last year, trust your coaches judgement on team matters. Be prepared to make a difference on your NEW team, not compare it with previous teams.

Tryouts are NOT about selecting players, tryouts are about building teams. In the end you will only have more fun by staying positive about your team and the individuals that make up that team. Watching players grow, develop new skills and mature is rewarding as a coach. Watching a team gel and support each other to achieve a common goal...priceless.

I hope you and your  team build something really special this year!
