Try Hockey For Free - Feb. 20

Come Try Hockey for FREE! This event is designed to provide kids, between the ages of 4 to 9, a completely free experience to try youth hockey. Equipment, skates, sticks and everything the kids need will be provided. Please pre-register so we're prepared for all of our participants. Our ice time starts at approximately 10:45 so please arrive early; it typically takes at least 20 minutes to get fitted for skates and protective equipment. Kids should wear loose fitting athletic pants or sweats (so knee/shin pads fit underneath) and t-shirts or thin sweatshirts. Our best coaches will be on the ice helping kids who have never skated before have fun learning the basics, and they'll also be guiding more experienced skaters through some skating drills and fun games! Hope to see you there!

      Teens for Jeans Clothing Drive

In cooperation with the Roseville Area School District and the John Rose Oval we would like RAYHA members help in their “Teens for Jeans” Program.  During the month of February the Roseville Area School District and the Oval are collecting jeans to donate to local homeless shelters.

You will find a box labelled "Teens for Jeans" in the lobby area of the Oval from February 1 – 26, 2016
      Teens for Jeans
      The Problem
Over a million young people experience homelessness in the US every year.

One item they often request? A pair of jeans.
      The Solution
A  jeans drive in our community!  Clean out your closet then bring your old jeans to the Oval to be donated to a local shelter. You'll be directly providing an essential clothing item for youth in need.  Jeans are the perfect item to donate. They can be worn multiple times between washes, can be dressed up or dressed down and they provide a sense of normalcy to the person wearing them.

      Donation Box
Located in the lobby area of the Oval from February 1 - 26, 2016

MN Hockey Offers Spring Checking Clinics

Minnesota Hockey announced today it will be offering checking clinics at three locations this spring. The clinics will provide players with an affordable opportunity for professional instruction on the skills of body contact and body checking. Each of the sessions will help players develop their confidence in physical situations, improve their all around performance and reduce the likelihood of injury.

“Body-checking is an important hockey skill, and for most, the technique takes many years to master,” said Guy Gosselin, USA Hockey ADM Regional Manager for Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota. “Teaching the foundational skills of proper body contact in a controlled environment, while providing positive feedback, dramatically reduces the chances of injury while also assisting in skill acquisition. Ultimately, it creates better hockey players.”

For over 65 years, Minnesota Hockey has been working with our community-based associations on the growth and development of youth hockey players. The key to the continued success of our hockey model is the selfless dedication and ingenuity of our volunteer base at the local level which puts forth yearly efforts to get more kids playing hockey.

Our 1st Skate Program is headed by Mike Oscarson, RAYHA's Promotions/Member Retention Director - great job, Mike!
