1st Skate (ages 4-8)
1st Skate begin 9/12 at Roseville Ice Arena
1st Skate is conducted in two sessions, both of which are optional but require two registrations. The first session is for beginning skaters, hitting the ice for the first time or a first start putting on hockey equipment. It is conducted over five days.
The full 20 week is for intermediate skaters, looking try some of the more introductory hockey skills and practices. Please reach out to the Intro to Hockey Coordinator linked below if you have questions on either session and which session(s) your child should attend.

The Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association (RAYHA) is on a mission to give kids ranging in the ages 4-8 years old in the Roseville area a chance to play hockey!
RAYHA’s 1st Skate program is specifically designed for Roseville Area kids & families who are unfamiliar with (or completely new to) hockey. We’ll cover all the basics, and keep the focus on FUN! The cost is only $50, but it does require a USA Hockey registration as well.
The program will consist of 1 orientation meeting with off-ice activities for the kids and information for the parents, followed by 6 one-hour ice sessions (warmups, small skills/game stations, full ice games/activities).
Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association (RAYHA) is on a mission to change the preconceived perceptions about youth hockey. Often hockey is perceived as too expensive, too complicated or too competitive. RAYHA wants ALL Roseville area kids to give hockey a try!
EQUIPMENT RENTAL
RAYHA has teamed up with Play It Again Sports in St. Paul to provide an equipment rental option for Introduction to Hockey families. The cost of equipment rental is $40.00 and includes the following equipment:
- Helmet
- Shoulder Pads
- Elbow Pads
- Gloves
- Breezers (Hockey Pants)
- Shin Pads
- Bag
Parents are responsible for the purchase of the following items:
- Skates (Used skates are recommended)
- Hockey Stick (A wood stick is recommended)
- Sweatpants (recommended) OR hockey socks
The following items are not required but are encouraged:
- Athletic supporter (Jock/Jill)
- Mouthguard
- Stick tape, shin tape, water bottle, etc.
If you wish to participate in this program, select the option to rent equipment during registration.
An individualized voucher will be sent to the email that you provide at registration. Bring this voucher to the Play It Again Sport located at 145 Snelling Avenue N., St. Paul to receive your equipment. Jerseys will be issued at the first session of Introduction to Hockey and are yours to keep.
At the conclusion of the season, equipment provided by the Association as described above must be returned in accordance with the procedure and the date specified by the Intro to Hockey Coordinator in order to avoid a $175.00 fee. The fee will be assessed to the credit/debit card used at registration.

1st Skate Goals
- Children who have never skated before will be able to skate without assistance at the end of the program.
- Children will learn proper basic skating, shooting & passing techniques.
- Families become knowledgeable about hockey protective equipment and are comfortable dressing their child.
- Families are introduced to RAYHA, Roseville Arena and The Oval.
- The kids have FUN!
